ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A 33-year-old man is dead after being shot by officers Thursday afternoon in northwest Atlanta, police said. Atlanta police said officers went to a home on the 1100 block of Joseph E. Boone Boulevard to serve a domestic violence and aggravated assault warrant when the suspect and another person, later identified as Rakeem Deandre James, got into a car and tried to drive away. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), James backed the SUV into an Atlanta police patrol car before driving forward and repeatedly hitting another patrol SUV positioned in front of him. The GBI said officers gave James verbal commands to stop, but he did not. That’s when multiple Atlanta police officers fired their weapons, hitting James several times, according to the GBI. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Police said James was not the subject of the warrant they were there to serve. That person, who has not been identified, is still at large. An Atlanta News
