Obituary - John Walter “Domino” Saunders Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory John Walter Saunders, affectionately known as “Domino” and “Walt” to those closest to him, passed away on October 25, 2026, at the age of 73.A devoted father, proud grandfather, faithful servant and respected member of his community, Walt leaves behind a legacy of service, loyalty and love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.Born on April 21, 1953, to John and Emily Saunders, Walt built a life defined by dedication to his family, commitment to his community and a deep respect for those who serve and protect others. Walt was a graduate of Windsor Forest High School and Middle Georgia College, where he was a collegiate tennis athlete. His competitive spirit, discipline and determination were qualities that would remain with him throughout his life.A proud veteran, Walt served in the National Guard and received an honorable discharge on August 7, 1986.His commitment to service did not end with his military career. In 1983, he became a member of the Statesboro, Georgia, community, where he would spend decades building relationships and making a lasting difference in the lives of those around him. Throughout his years in Statesboro, Walt served his community in several capacities, including as a business owner. He ultimately found great purpose and pride in his work as a deputy jailer, a role that reflected his deep respect for law enforcement and his desire to serve others. His dedication to law enforcement extended far beyond his profession; it was a calling he carried with pride. Serving his community in this capacity was one of the greatest honors of his life.Walt was also a proud member of the Blue Knights Georgia Chapter II. His love of motorcycles brought him together with a brotherhood of fellow riders who shared his passion for the open road and the bonds of friendship. Whether riding with his Blue Knights crew, spending time with his law enforcement family or enjoying the company of his loved ones, Walt treasured the relationships that made his life rich and meaningful. Those who knew Walt will remember him as a respectful, well-dressed gentleman who carried himself with pride and treated others with dignity. He had a distinctive presence, a love for a good cigar and a special way of greeting those around him. His familiar words, “Heyyyy, boy,” will forever bring a smile to the faces of those who heard them. It was a simple greeting, but one that became a part of who he was and a memory his loved ones will carry with them. Above all his accomplishments and affiliations, Walt was a proud father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were among his greatest sources of joy and pride. He cherished his family and the time he spent with them, creating memories and relationships that will continue to be treasured for generations to come.Walt is survived by his beloved children, Jessica (Ken) Land, Amelia (Zac) Case, David Saunders and Whit (Laura) Saunders; and his cherished grandchildren, Maddy Land, Annabelle Land, Ella Rose Land, Carr Case, Ryan Case, Harrison Saunders and J.T. He also leaves behind special friends, including Bobby Durden and Mark Troughton; along with his extended family, fellow law enforcement officers, Blue Knights brothers and many dear friends throughout the Statesboro community.A lifelong member of First Christian Church of Savannah, Walt’s faith was an enduring part of his life. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the legacy Walt leaves behind is one of honor, service, brotherhood and unwavering love for his family. He will be remembered for the pride he took in his work, the loyalty he showed his friends, the dedication he gave his community and the unmistakable spirit that made him Domino. His watch has ended, but his legacy will never fade.
